  1. Hi Mrs. Mueller! I`ve been reading a lot this summer (6 books so far) and now my favorite author is Gary Paulsen. I have read two books by him which are Hatchet and Dogsong. They are both Newbery Honor award winners. I advise you to read them both if you have not already. Right now I am reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O`Dell. I am going to read My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George next. Do you have any recommendations for books that follow along the survival theme? I hope you`re having a great summer and I will see you soon. Keep reading!

    1. Blake - it's so great to hear from you! I'm so glad you've discovered Gary Paulsen. He's amazing! I loved his memoir HOW ANGEL PETERSON GOT HIS NAME. Since you're reading some older survival stories, you might like The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare and Julie of the Wolves, same author as My Side of the Mountain. There are lots more by Gary Paulsen; Hatchet's sequels are The River, Brian's Winter, and Brian's Return. A new survival series is called Stranded by Jeff Probst. I like that you're concentrating on a theme topic! Are you able to come tomorrow to the Mock Newbery Club meeting?
